The Discovery
Center at Seneca Rocks is the best
place to begin an adventure in the Monongahela National Forest.
Interpretative displays, slide shows and movies explain the culture
and history of the region, and its geological and ecological significance.
A display of rock climbing techniques and equipment acknowledges
the area's importance to rock climbers. The Center has picnic grounds,
playing fields, nature trails and a well-maintained hiking trail
leading to the top of the rocks, where an observation platform provides
sweeping views. The Center sells guide books and maps. Staff people
are on hand to answer questions and help visitors get the most out
of their visit to the forest. Many programs, demonstration and participatory
activities are scheduled weekends. Information:
