Moss Phlox - Phlox subulata (Phlox family - Polemoniaceae)

Moss Phlox - Phlox subulata (Phlox family - Polemoniaceae) Also called Moss Pink or Flowering Moss, although it is not a true moss. Creeping habit. Found on rocky slopes and sandy soil. Deeply notched petals and needle-like leaves.

The dense evergreen carpet of this low, matted phlox is so profusely studded with masses of bloom that the foliage is obscured by the flowers. The small, 5-lobed blossoms are pink, purple or white with a darker colored eye. Moss Phlox grows at elevations up to 3,500 ft.
