False Solomon's Seal - Smilacina racemosa (Lily family - Liliaceae)

 

False Solomon's Seal - Smilacina racemosa (Lily family - Liliaceae) The oval, pointed leaves alternate along the arching zigzag stem, which is tipped with a spirea-like cluster of creamy-white flowers.

 

 

 

In the fall it bears a cluster of ruby-red berries. 2 -3 ft. Flowers have 3 petals and 3 sepals of the same color and size. Leaves have conspicuous ribs. The young shoots can be chopped and added to a salad or eaten boiled. This plant has been used in the same manner as true Solomon's Seal.
