Birdsfoot Trefoil - Lotus corniculatus (Pea family - Leguminosae) A low plant often with a reclining stem, clover-like leaves and yellow pea-like flowers in flat-topped terminal clusters. The yellow flowers are sometimes tinged with red.

 

 

 

The pod arrangement suggests a bird's foot; hence the common name. The cooked seed pods were eaten by early settlers. Fields, roadsides, waste places. This showy plant was introduced from Europe.
