Thimbleweed - Anemone virginiana (Buttercup family - Ranunculaceae) Tall; "petals" (sepals) often greenish white, not showy. Leaves heavily veined. 2 -3 ft.

 

 

 

 

Dry or rocky open woods and thickets. The common name derives from the seed head, which is thought to resemble a thimble.
