Enchanter's Nightshade - Circaea quadrisulcata ( Evening-primrose family - Onagraceae) • The tiny flowers have 2 deeply notched petals, 2 reflexed sepals. Leaves paired, irregularly toothed. Fruit nutlike, bristle-covered, oblong to ovoid, bending downward at maturity. 1 - 2 ft. Woods.

 

 

 

 

This is one of the few 2-petalled flowers. Both the generic and common names derive from the mythological enchantress, Circe, who is said to have used a poisonous member of this genus in her sorcery.
