This tour begins at Thorn Spring Park, which is reached by taking
U. S. Rt. 220 south from Franklin 3.2 miles to a left turn onto
Dry Run Road and proceeding 0.7 miles to the park. Vehicles may
be parked on the perimeter of the playing fields and by the rail
fence along the main drive.
Begin the tour by turning right onto Dry Run Road and at 0.4 miles,
veer slightly left on same road as it makes a long, rolling ascent
alongside aptly named Dry Run. At 1.5 miles, pass the Franklin town
water filtration plant. Hillside farmland appears at 2.3 miles,
interspersed with wooded areas.
At 3.8 miles, pass Capito Hill Road on the right, and logging
debris on both sides of the road. Reach the crest of Sharp Ridge
at 5.1 miles, and begin a leisurely, scenic descent through rolling
farmland and woods. Look for ostrich-like emus at 6.7 miles.

Pass by large, pungent poultry houses at 8.4 miles and begin an
ascent to the intersection with Rt. 25 at 9.1 miles.
Turn right and begin a descent to the former Moyers Post Office
at 10.5 miles, and turn right again following White Thorn Creek
as it makes its way to Thorn Creek. At 11.4 miles, turn right on
Thorn Creek Road (Rt. 20) and begin a gentle descent along its banks,
shaded by sycamore trees with their distinctive mottled, peeling
bark.
At 14.0 miles, the road ascends for a short distance as the narrowing
passageway does not provide enough room for both road and creek.
At 16.9 miles begins a public fly-fishing-only section of the creek.
At 19.5 miles, turn right, go over the bridge, turn left and return
to the starting point Thorn Spring Park 0.5 miles
away.
