"Twelve Angry Jurors"

The Smith Creek Playhouse of Pendleton County, West Virginia, produced the classic drama "Twelve Angry Jurors," a play based on the Emmy Award winning television/movie, "Twelve Angry Men" by Reginald Rose."Our actors will stand well if compared to these films' stars," said Mike Roberts, who directed the production.

An ensemble cast was selected from the Playhouse's stable of superb actors and included: Kathleen Brennan, Bill Hall, Charlotte Hoover, Clad Hoten, Brad Hott, Dawn Hott, Greg Hott, Jessica Moyer, Dwayne Propst, Kevin Propst, Chris Roberson, Paulette Roberts and David Van Scoy. Sue Hall was the stage manager. Technical assistance was provided by Shaun Moyer and Jessie Leake.

Synopsis: A jury of seven men and five women deliberate the fate of a 19-year-old man accused of first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of his father. At the outset it appears to be an open-and-shut case, but as the facts of the case are discussed, it becomes apparent that there is more than the life of the defendant at stake. The jury and the American judicial system with its purported sense of infallibility, fairness and lack of bias are also on trial.

The play examines the twelve jurors' deep-seated personal prejudices, perceptual biases and weaknesses, indifference, angry personalities, unreliable judgments, cultural differences, ignorance and fears that threaten to taint their decision-making abilities, cause them to ignore the real issues in the case, and potentially lead them to a miscarriage of justice. As one of the posters promoting the original television production proclaims: Life is in their hands - Death is on their minds! It explodes like 12 sticks of dynamite.

Following its original television production, "Twelve Angry Men" was made into a feature length film, which garnered three Academy Awards nominations. Forty years later it was remade for television with an entirely different cast. The two professional productions featured some of Hollywood's most famous actors.
