This tour begins at Friends Run Church of the Brethren, which is
located on US Rt. 33, 4 miles west of Franklin.
Begin the tour by turning left onto US Rt. 33 west and at 0.3 miles
begin first ascent, topping out at 1.1 miles. At 1.7 miles, turn
right onto Reeds Creek Road (Rt. 8), which gradually descends along
with the creek until at 5.5 miles, the road crosses the usually
dry (in summer) stream bed. Ascend out of the Reeds Creek watershed,
passing several poultry houses and then descend along a tributary
of Hammer Run. At 7.1 miles, turn right on Hammer Run Road (Rt.
10), and at 8.6 miles, turn right on Buffalo Hills Road (Rt. 5/10).
At 8.9 miles, as you ascend into the Buffalo Hills, the road becomes
packed gravel and winds its way through stands of hemlock trees
severely affected by the hemlock woolly adelgid.

Notice: This road contains cattle guards. The mesh
type may be easily ridden over but the pipe type may need to be
walked across. Don't be surprised if you encounter sheep or cattle
in the road during your ride. There are cattle guards at 10.6, 10.8
and 11.4 miles.
At 10.2 miles, farmland appears and the road is somewhat rougher.
The road is rough from here to the last cattle guard at 11.4 miles,
where the road surface returns to packed gravel. Begin a descent
at 11.7 miles. At 12. 2 miles, the road surface becomes paved although
somewhat narrow. The road widens at 12.8 miles for the last climb
and tops out at 13.9 miles. Descend toward US Rt. 33 and at 15.1
miles, turn right for a highway leg of 1.7 miles to the starting
point.
