The Treasure Mt. Festival is Pendleton County's annual celebration
of its unique mountain culture. It is a heritage of shared history,
customs and dialect, which evolved from the early 1700s, when this
area was the frontier wilderness for settlers seeking land.

By the 1800s easier routes westward allowed later settlers to bypass
this region, leaving the descendants of the early pioneers to develop
their own way of life, largely isolated from outside influences until
the early 20th century.
